Many parents believe that there is no sense in checking their child's vision until they can read an eye chart. This simply is not true. Eye doctors have the equipment and technology to check a child's eyes even if he or she is non-verbal. Doing so enables eye doctors to diagnose problems when they are still treatable - especially lazy eye (amblyopia). Unfortunately, only 20% of children are screened for eye diseases. This is due to the fact that parents and unaware that screening can be useful and the the refusal of insurance companies to pay for screening. Let's see how this applies to your child's situation.
